From November 15 to November 19, 2021, the Education and Research Institute of Continuing Education of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (NUBiP) was held an advanced training on organic production, circulation, and labeling of organic products for the experts of the National Accreditation Agency of Ukraine (hereinafter – NAAU). This event was held at the request of the National Accreditation Agency of Ukraine was supported by Switzerland within the framework of the Swiss-Ukrainian Program “Higher Value Added Trade from the Organic and Dairy Sector in Ukraine” (QFTP), implemented by the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL, Switzerland) in partnership with SAFOSO AG (Switzerland), www.qftp.org.

Students of the advanced training are full-time and part-time experts of the NAAU.

Welcoming remarks were made on November 15 by:

Olena Kovalova, DSc in Economics, Director of the Education and Research Institute of Continuing Education of the NUBiP;

Valerii Krasiuk, Deputy Director for International Cooperation – Head of Department for International Cooperation, Management System and Work with Accreditation Personnel (NAAU); Natalie Prokopchuk, Organic Component Coordinator of the  Swiss-Ukrainian Program “Higher Value Added Trade from the Organic and Dairy Sector in Ukraine”.

The first topic of the advanced training was “Introduction to the organic production”, which was covered by Olena Kovalova, DSc in Economics, Professor of the Department of Public Administration and Innovation Management, Director of the Education and Research Institute of Continuing Education of the NUBiP and Olena Korogod (Berezovska), President of Organic Ukraine NGO.

The second topic, raised on the first day of the training, was presented by Yulia Movchan, Ph.D.  in International Law, Senior Researcher, Expert in law-making, Lawyer who developed organic legislation, Scientific Consultant on legal issues, the Center for Lawmaking and Legal Expertise NGO with the topic “Legal regulation of organic production, circulation, and labelling of organic products in Ukraine”.

The next lecturer was Olena Kyyvets, Doctor of Law, Professor, Expert in law-making, Lawyer who developed organic legislation, Scientific Consultant on legal issues,  Center for Lawmaking and Legal Expertise NGO  with the topic “State control and responsibility in organic production, circulation, and labeling of organic products.”

According to the approved program, training on various issues in the field of organic production, circulation and labeling of organic products was conducted: features of the procedure for accreditation of certification bodies in organic production; organizational and legal requirements for certification of organic production; requirements for circulation and labelling of organic products; labelling control; requirements for the organic crop production (including seed production and nursery); requirements for organic mushroom growing (including growing of organic yeast); requirements for organic wild collection; requirements for organic livestock; requirements for organic beekeeping; requirements for the production of organic food (including organic winemaking) and the production of organic feed; requirements for organic aquaculture and production of organic seaweed; the procedure for certification of organic production; international experience of accreditation for conformity assessment bodies in organic production.
