New methodological guidelines approved for participants of the Raw Milk Control Program
On September 23, 2024, the Scientific and Methodological Council of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection (hereinafter – SSUFSCP) approved the methodological guidelines “Detection of Residues of Antibiotic Substances and Other Inhibitors in Raw Milk. Use of Screening and Confirming Methods within the Raw Milk Control Program.”
These guidelines were developed with the support of the Swiss-Ukrainian program “Higher Value Added Trade from the Organic and Dairy Sector in Ukraine” (QFTP) to facilitate the selection of methods for laboratory testing aimed at detecting antimicrobial / antibiotic residues.
The guidelines include:
- principles of screening and confirming methods for detecting antimicrobial / antibiotic residues and other inhibitors;
- advantages and disadvantages of these methods;
- requirements for analytical methods;
- interpretation of laboratory test results.
The guidelines will be useful for laboratory specialists authorized by the SSUFSCP to test raw milk samples within the Raw Milk Control Program, food business operators, SSUFSCP’s specialists controlling milk production and distribution, postgraduate students, scientists, faculty members, and students of higher education in the specialties 211 “Veterinary Medicine” and 212 “Veterinary Hygiene, Sanitation, and Expertise.”
