A new important step in the development of the organic market in Ukraine and the implementation of organic legislation has been made — the organic state logo has appeared for the first time on the shelves of Silpo national chain of supermarkets.
One of Silpo supermarkets in Kyiv has placed new special “organic tags” with the state logo on the shelves with organic products produced in Ukraine. This joint initiative of Organic Initiative Public Association and Silpo national chain of supermarkets aims to draw more attention to organic products and raise awareness of organic labelling among consumers.
The implementation of this initiative is a testament to the successful implementation of the Law of Ukraine “On Basic Principles and Requirements for Organic Production, Circulation and Labelling of Organic Products” and relevant bylaws.
Since 17 August 2023, following the launch of the State Register of Operators engaged in the production of products in accordance with the requirements of the legislation in the field of organic production, circulation and labelling of organic products by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, producers have for the first time started to label organic higher added value products with the state logo, but these products have not been widely available on the shelves of large retail chains until now.
This step is an important milestone for the Ukrainian organic sector, as the presence of the organic state logo and special signage on the shelves of retail chains helps to increase awareness about organic labelling and consumer confidence in organic products.
