New Opportunities and Challenges for Ukrainian Organic Exports

With support from Switzerland, the Organic Initiative Public Association, in partnership with the research agency MZ HUB, conducted a study on the status, plans, and needs of Ukrainian organic exporters. The study was conducted between December 2024 and January 2025.

As part of the study, 91 out of approximately 150 Ukrainian organic exporters were surveyed online and via telephone to assess their market expansion plans, identify key challenges, and develop recommendations to support export of organic products from Ukraine.

The study results confirm the growth of Ukrainian organic exports and the strong interest of exporting companies in entering new markets. In 2025, 54% of surveyed exporters plan to expand their export geography, with the Top 10 target markets being France, the USA, Switzerland, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Austria, and Israel. These destinations are mostly the same as the Top export markets in 2024, which were led by Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Italy, the Czech Republic, Austria, France, Switzerland, Belgium, and Moldova.

The key export challenges faced by companies include:

  • Logistical difficulties – 60% of exporters report issues, particularly on the border with Poland.
  • Limited market diversification – 45% of companies rely on just 2-3 core markets, increasing business risks.
  • Rising competition – 29% of exporters note that entering international markets is becoming more challenging.
  • Stricter quality requirements – 28% of companies are facing this problem.

To support the export of organic products from Ukraine, stakeholders and industry organisations should work on removing border barriers, optimising logistics chains, and helping exporters enter new markets. Key tools include market study, B2B matchmaking, and export development programmes.

The study confirms that Ukraine’s organic sector has strong export potential. Coordinated collaboration between businesses, government institutions, and international partners will help overcome existing challenges and unlock new opportunities for Ukrainian exporters in the global market.
