Органічний день в Україні 2023

On 25 September 2023 the Conference “Organic Day in Ukraine” was held as a sign that Ukraine had joined the celebration of the Organic Day together with the EU countries for the second time. The event was also aimed at raising awareness about certified organic products and promoting the key role of organic agriculture in transition to sustainable production and consumption in Ukraine. 

Over 200 participants took part in the conference, that was held in a hybrid format. 

The representatives of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, State Institution “Entrepreneurship and Export Promotion Office”, Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine, Embassy of Switzerland in Ukraine, as well as experts from international projects, Organic Standard certification body, retailers and organic operators were among the guests and speakers. 

In his welcome speech at the opening of the conference Taras Vysotskyi, First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, said: “Ukraine has come a long and difficult way on the way to developing the organic sector. This is an area of European integration where we can be proud of our achievements. The Ukrainian organic legislation is under active adaptation to the EU legislation. Dozens of organic operators have already been registered in the State Register of Organic Operators. Therefore, we can celebrate not only the EU Organic Day, but also the Ukrainian one”. During the conference the first Ukrainian organic producers certified according to the Ukrainian organic legislation were awarded. The State Register now includes about 50 companies and is growing steadily, and the first organic product labelled with the Ukrainian national organic logo has already appeared on the market.

The conference was organised by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine and Organic Initiative Public Association with support of Switzerland within the framework of the Swiss-Ukrainian Programs “Higher Value Added Trade from the Organic and Dairy Sector in Ukraine” (QFTP) and “Organic Trade for Development” (OT4D) and the German-Ukrainian Cooperation in Organic Agriculture project (COA) in partnership with EU project “Institutional and Policy Reform for Smallholder Agriculture” (IPRSA). 

Before the conference “Organic Day in Ukraine” the Organic Initiative together with Silpo retail chain organised the Organic September festival of Ukrainian organic products during which guests of the retail chain were not only able to buy organic products, but also meet the producers in person. The following trademarks of Ukrainian organic producers were presented at the festival: Staryi Porytsk, Organic Milk “O”, Organic Meat, Danube Agrarian, EcorodKozub Product OrganicGarna, Brancho and Molfar.
