On the joint initiative of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, the Swiss-Ukrainian Program “Higher Value Added Trade from the Organic and Dairy Sector in Ukraine” (QFTP) and the Project “German-Ukrainian Cooperation in Organic Agriculture” (COA) an online workshop was held on July 9, 2021 to discuss the establishment of the Register of Organic Seeds and Planting Material in Ukraine.
During the webinar the experience of establishment and functioning organic seeds registers in 3 EU countries: the Netherlands, Poland and Germany were presented and discussed. Practical experience on these issues and characteristics of the organic seed databases in the EU countries were presented by:
Dr. Stefan Dreesmann, Team Leader of the Project “German-Ukrainian Cooperation in Organic Agriculture” (COA), Germany
Bartosz Pytlak, Head of Organic Farming Office, Department of Quality Systems at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Poland
Maaike Raaijmakers, Project leader on organic seed and breeding at Bionext, Netherlands
The seminar was held to learn international experience, discuss the existing questions and brainstorm on the best and feasible solutions for Ukraine to create such a register, since the establishment of the State Register of Organic Seeds and Planting Material in Ukraine is a prerequisite for the implementation of the Law of Ukraine “On Basic Principles and Requirements for Organic Production, Circulation and Labeling of Organic Products” No. 2496-VIII.
