On September 20, 2021, the presentation of the Ukrainian Organic Export Days (UOED) 2021 took place, which was attended by a representative of the Embassy of Switzerland in Ukraine, Director of the Office of Economic Growth, USAID Mission in Ukraine and Belarus, General Manager of Organic Standard LLC – Ukrainian organic certification body, Deputy Minister of the Economy of Ukraine, Acting Director of the SI “Entrepreneurship and Export Promotion Office”, as well as Ukrainian producers of organic food products, foreign buyers and importers, B2B negotiations between which will take place on the B2match platform from September 21 to October 1.

At the opening of UOED 2021, the features and potential of organic food and agricultural products industry of Ukraine were presented. International buyers had the opportunity to learn about Ukrainian organic producers from industry experts and senior officials.

The discussion began with introductory remarks by Viktor Shutkevych, Assistant Director of the Swiss Cooperation in Ukraine, the Embassy of Switzerland. He underlined that Switzerland is in the top 10 of importing countries of organic products from Ukraine according to the Ukrainian Organic Market Survey 2020. He said:

“More and more Ukrainian exporters offer organic higher value added products, such as corn sticks, oil, apple juice, birch sap, tomato pasta, cereal flakes and granola, fruit bar, ice cream, different dairy products, tea, honey, chocolate, and others. Ukrainian organic exporters became more professional thanks to the capacity development approach implemented by the Entrepreneurship and Export Promotion Office (EEPO) in partnership with local organic stakeholders with the support of our Swiss-Ukrainian Program “Higher Value Added Trade from the Organic and Dairy Sector in Ukraine” (QFTP) and other international projects”.

Welcoming remarks were also made by Christopher Abrams, Director of the Office of Economic Growth, USAID Mission in Ukraine and Belarus, and Dmytro Senik, Deputy Foreign Minister, Chief Digital Transformation Officer.

After that, presentations of organic production and trade in organic and agricultural products of Ukraine began.

Taras Kachka, Deputy Minister of the Economy of Ukraine – Trade representative of Ukraine, presented the Ukraine-EU business opportunities and cooperation with different countries in the organic sector. He described the Ukrainian organic export structure, organic legislation on the production of organic agricultural products in Ukraine and mentioned the Ukrainian network of FTAs.

Andrii Lytvyn, Acting Director, SI “Entrepreneurship and Export Promotion Office” gave a talk on the perspective export categories and trends as well as achievements of the Ukrainian organic sector. He listed the key organic events in Ukraine, described where and how to meet Ukrainian organic producers, and presented the list of Ukrainian organic producers – the project participants, producers of organic berries, herbs, oils, cereals, vegetables, fruits, mushrooms, snacks, legumes, etc.

With the final speech, Sergiy Galashevskyy, General Manager of Organic Standard LLC – Ukrainian organic certification body, characterized the organic certification process and standards in Ukraine. He explained about the organic control system, organic law in Ukraine and also listed the foreign organic certification bodies.
