On 26 May 2026, online training “Precautionary measures to be implemented by organic operators to avoid the presence of unauthorised products and substances” was held. The event was organised by the Organic Standard LLC certification body with support from Switzerland within the framework of Swiss-Ukrainian Programme “Higher Value Added Trade from the Organic and Dairy Sector in Ukraine” (QFTP).

Around 50 representatives of the Ukrainian organic sector took part in the event, including organic operators, consultants, and sector experts.

During the training, the participants were introduced to the key requirements of Regulation (EU) 2018/848 concerning precautionary measures that operators have to implement to avoid the presence of unauthorised products and substances in organic production and circulation of organic products. Special attention was given to the practical application of these requirements in organic crop production, livestock production, as well as in the preparation and processing of organic products.

The online training covered the following topics:

  • the regulatory framework and requirements of Regulation (EU) 2018/848 on preventive measures;
  • practical aspects of implementing preventive measures in organic crop production;
  • approaches to implementing preventive measures in organic livestock production;
  • specific features of applying preventive measures during the preparation and processing of organic products;
  • defining and implementing preventive measures from the perspective of an organic operator.

As part of the event, a Practical Guide for agricultural enterprises on the implementation of Article 28(1) of Regulation (EU) 2018/848 on organic production and labelling of organic products was also presented. The guide was developed by the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL, Switzerland) and translated and adapted by Organic Standard’s team with support from Switzerland under the QFTP programme.

The guide will help organic operators to systematically identify critical control points in production processes, minimise the risk of contamination with unauthorised substances, and prevent mixing of organic products with non-organic or in conversion products. It includes step-by-step instructions, analysis of typical risk areas, practical case studies for different types of farms, as well as user-friendly checklist templates and guidance for self-assessment.
